Medical Pharma was founded by the late Shri Raja Ram Gupta in 1962 with the goal of manufacturing high-quality, economical medicines for patients and revolutionizing healthcare in India.
During his tenure as founder and director from 1962 to 1972, he was able to successfully treat many people with his high-quality medicines.
Despite transportation challenges and being based in a small town in Uttar Pradesh, the company was able to supply its products throughout India.
“The liquid section of Medical Pharma was inaugurated by the Late Honorable Sucheta Kriplani on February 22, 1964, with the vision of revolutionizing healthcare and providing better healthcare and syrup, suspension to people throughout India.”
“All of the manufacturing machinery for Medical Pharma was imported and transported from the Kolkata port to the company’s head office in Kolkata and then to the manufacturing unit in Uttar Pradesh.”
“After taking over as the managing director of Medical Pharma, Late Shri Haridwar Prasad Gupta expanded the company’s reach to Orissa, Kolkata, and throughout Uttar Pradesh and present Uttarakhand as an ethical marketing company.”
“Also During His tenure, Medical Pharma began third party manufacturing of tablets, a service that is still offered today. At the time, there were few companies in India that produced tablets for other companies, so this was a significant achievement for Medical Pharma.”
“During this time, many companies were coming to the Lucknow and Kolkata headquarter of Medical Pharma daily to purchase tablets and liquid formulations.”
“As Medical Pharma was expanding its market, daily raw materials were arriving at the port and the company was overwhelmed with work due to the high demand for its products from the market.”
“After graduating from Shibli National College, Shri Pradeep Kumar Gupta joined Medical Pharma as Managing Director in an effort to help the company recover from the incident that had occurred.”
“In 1986, due to a significant theft of raw materials at the port worth around ₹2,00,000 (today’s worth approximately over ₹26,00,000), Medical Pharma suffered a large loss and was forced to shut down its markets outside of Uttar Pradesh.”
“In 2001, after recovering from the loss, Shri Pradeep Kumar Gupta restarted the expansion of Medical Pharma’s headquarters throughout Uttar Pradesh and established Butan DP and Butaflam as home brands of the company.”
Unfortunately, due to the non-cooperation of officials, constant problems occurred, and in 2014, the manufacturing unit was shut down.
Despite the shutdown of the manufacturing unit, the major headquarters surrounding it remained operational throughout this period.
The company transitioned from manufacturing products themselves to contract manufacturing, where they outsource the production of their products to other companies.( This can be done for a variety of reasons, including to reduce production costs, increase production capacity, or to access specialized manufacturing capabilities.)
In 2022,Mr.Pradeep Kr Gupta once again started expanding the company to several cities in Uttar Pradesh, with the aim of building the company into a national brand.
After expanding to a few cities and conducting market research,Mr.Pradeep Kumar Gupta was disappointed with the response of other company’s medicines which are selling at higher prices. As a result, he decided to open their own manufacturing unit, which will be the first allopathic manufacturing unit in Uttar Pradesh East, with sections for producing liquid, capsules, and tablets. Gupta’s goal is to provide affordable, high-quality medicines to the people of India and to continue the work of the company’s founders and directors in growing the company.
